Sedro Woolley Announcement1

Update on K-2nd Grade returning to online learning November 9th:

Dear Families,

As you know from previous communications, we have been closely monitoring Skagit County’s COVID-19 infection rates, which are tracked by the Skagit Health District. During the past 10 days, rates have sharply increased and the unofficial data shows that with yesterday’s 20 new cases, we have exceeded the moderate threshold of 75 new cases per 100,000 in Skagit County placing us in the high COVID-19 Activity Level.

As outlined in the OSPI decision tree, it is strongly recommended to transition to distance learning when cases exceed 75 per 100,000. Based on being in the high COVID-19 activity level, the Sedro-Woolley School District has made the decision to return K-2 back to a remote learning environment. We want to give our staff and families this official notification so they can start planning for the shift to remote learning as early as possible. The first day of remote learning will be Monday, November 9, and will not impact student conferences. Conferences will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for elementary schools, which will release at 12:30 p.m. On Thursday and Friday: State Street will release at 11 a.m.; Sedro-Woolley High School will release at 11:50 a.m.; Cascade Middle School will release at 12 p.m. There will be no school on Wednesday as we honor Veterans Day.

This transition does not impact students who are on campus outside of the K-2 hybrid model due to special needs or the third- to twelfth-grade remote instruction or those K-2 students who continued in the remote learning model.

We continue to follow sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect the health of our students and staff. We also want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of wearing masks, staying six feet apart from others, and regularly washing your hands.

The primary symptoms of COVID-19 include shortness of breath, coughing, and fever or chills. Other symptoms include congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches, and loss of taste or smell. If you begin to experience symptoms, please consult a healthcare provider.

We will continue to keep you updated as we receive guidance and information. As we continue to track COVID-19 metrics, we will update our families about transitioning back to the hybrid-learning model as cases decrease. If you have specific questions about our remote learning model, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Phil Brockman, Superintendent
